  • 1 cup whole milk, at room temperature

Instructions

  • In the first step, you should prepare the pans for baking.Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) well before cooking.Prepare the cake pans by coating them with butter, putting parchment on the bottom and making it easier to remove the cake.
  • The second step is to mix the dry ingredients.Put the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl and sift them. Set aside.
  • Add the next step by creaming the butter and sugar. In a big bowl, use a mixer to beat the softened butter until it is smooth and creamy.Beat in the granulated sugar slowly, so the mixture turns light and airy (takes 3-4 minutes).
  • Step 4: Add in the Eggs and VanillaStir in the eggs a bit at a time, mixing well after putting in each one.Include Vanilla: Mix in the vanilla extract. At this step, you add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients
  • Add the flour mixture a third at a time, adding milk each time after, until it is all incorporated. Ingredients like flour, baking powder and sugar come before moister ingredients which are added at the end. Keep working the dough only until it comes together; do not over-mix.After resting for 30 minutes, put the pans in the oven.Put the same amount of batter in each of the prepared pans.
  • Bake the cake for about 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out without any batter on it.Leave the cakes to cool in their pans for 10 minutes, then remove and finish cooling them on a rack.
  • Step 7 (Optional): If you want, spread frosting over the top of the cake.Cream the butter until it becomes spreadable. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and cream one at a time and mix the entire mixture until it is fluffy.Layer the frosting between each cake piece, frost the top and sides as you prefer

Notes

Level the cake: Trim the top of the cake to make even layers if necessary. Chill before frosting: Cold the cake for 30 minutes before frosting to reduce the pieces.
